Nafplio was the first capital of the modern Greek state. Its Old Town, Palamidi and Bourtzi make it one of the most distinctive destinations in the Peloponnese, with Epidaurus and Mycenae close by.
You reach it by road, and the drive from Athens is among the easiest trips on the mainland. A private car with a driver also lets you combine the area's archaeological sites.
