The caldera, the cliff-top villages and the volcanic landscape make Santorini one of the most recognisable islands in the Aegean. Whether you stay in Fira, Oia or somewhere quieter, distances and steep roads make getting around with luggage harder than it looks.
The airport has flights from Athens all year round and, in summer, many direct flights from abroad. Ferries dock at Athinios, below the caldera cliffs, where a winding road climbs to Fira and the villages. On summer days traffic there is heavy, so a pre-arranged private transfer makes arriving much easier.
